How to clean mirrored furniture

At OKA, we love a dash of opulence and our range of mirrored furniture creates just that in any space it is placed. The reflections of a mirrored surface are eye-catching and add just the right amount of glamour. Because of the delicate appearance and structure of mirrored furniture, we are often asked how best to care for it once you’ve taken your new piece home. Here, we focus on how to clean mirrored furniture and how you can make your mirrored furniture look its best for longer. Think no streaks, no cracks and no chips.

How do you clean mirrored furniture?

– To maintain the appearance of your mirror, we recommend regular dusting with a soft cloth.

– Glass or mirrored panels should be cleaned using a non-solvent based glass cleaner and a soft cloth, carefully avoiding contact with wooden or painted sections.

– The repeated use of a silicone-containing polish is not recommended as it will lead to a build-up of a silicone film, altering the appearance of the piece.

– Remove spills immediately using a lightly damp cloth to avoid damage to glass backing or surface. Water left over a long period of time may cause white spots in the finish.

How do you protect mirrored furniture?

– Take care to avoid chemicals such as iodine, hair products, shaving creams and lotions, alcohol, perfume, acetone, cosmetics and paint remover coming into contact with your mirror as these may damage the finish.

– Avoid using delicate protrusions as handholds when carrying mirrors as this can cause breakage.

– Take care when moving mirrors, always use two people to lift them up, as dragging pieces or carrying them single-handed may cause the frame to twist or damage the joints, which could crack the glass.

– On dressing table mirrors, ensure the sides are positioned carefully to keep the mirror stable.

– If the glass is chipped or broken, stop using the product.

– Avoid dragging items across surfaces as this may cause fine scratches in the glass.

– If your mirror becomes stained, scratched or chipped, or suffers any other damage we recommend professional help is sought to restore it.
